Directions:
You will be required to write a response to a book you have read over this holiday season. It may be a book of your choosing; however, it must be approved by your teacher. This written response is an essay.


Your Task:
You will be required to write a response to a book you have read over this holiday season. It may be a book of your choosing; however, it must be approved by your teacher. This written response is an essay.

Guidelines:
Your written response will address the following categories:
· The title of the book along with the author(s) name must be included in your written response
· You will discuss the genre (or type of book—ex. Horror, Book for Teens, Historical, Fiction, Memoir, etc.) showing what makes the book the genre that it is)
· You will discuss characters of the book
o Talk about the kind of people these characters are
§ If you met these characters in real life, would you like them, get along with them, avoid them
§ Why or why not
· You will discuss the setting:
o Where does this story take place and when?
o What does the setting tell the reader about the story? How so
· Talk about whether this writer is a writer whose work you enjoy and why or why not
· Would you read more books by this writer? Why or why not?
· Who would you recommend this book for and why?
· What would you expect the writer’s other books to be about or like?
· What literary technique did the writer use to convey his or her message?
· How did the author use that literary technique to convey his or her message?
· You must create a cover for your book report
